Visão global do programa de pesquisa IEML

A espécie humana pode ser definida pela sua capacidade especial para manipular símbolos. Cada grande aumento nessa habilidade trouxe enormes alterações econômicas, sociais, políticas, religiosas, epistemológicas, educacionais (e assim por diante).

Eu acho que houve apenas 4 destas grandes mudanças. A primeira está relacionada com a invenção da escrita, quando os símbolos se tornaram permamente reificada. A segunda corresponde à invenção do alfabeto, numerais indianos e outros pequenos grupos de símbolos capazes de representar "quase tudo" por combinação. O terceiro é a invenção da imprensa e a invenção posterior dos meios de comunicação eletrônicos. Neste caso, os símbolos foram reproduzidos e transmitidos por máquinas industriais. Estamos presentemente no início de uma grande mudança. A quarta mudança é antropológica, porque os símbolos podem agora ser transformados por autómatos massivamente distribuídos na forma digital.

Minha principal hipótese é que ainda não tinham inventado os sistemas simbólicos e instituições culturais da instalação do novo meio digital. Assim, a minha pesquisa nos últimos 15 anos tem se dedicado à invenção de um sistema simbólico capaz de explorar o poder computacional, a capacidade da memória e da onipresença do meio digital.

Esse sistema simbólico é chamada IEML, para Meta Linguagem e Economia da Informação. 

 Ela é:

(1) uma linguagem artificial que se traduz automaticamente em línguas naturais,

(2) um idioma metadados para a marcação colaborativa semântica de dados digitais,

(3) uma nova camada de endereçamento do meio digital (endereçamento conceitual) resolvendo o problema da interoperabilidade semântica,

(4) uma linguagem de programação especializada na concepção de redes semânticas,

(5) um sistema de coordenadas semânticas da mente (a esfera semântica), permitindo a modelagem computacional da cognição humana e a auto-observação de inteligências coletivas.

O desenvolvimento e uso de IEML poderia levar a uma revolução epistemológica em ciências humanas e sociais (em frente atualmente, uma avalanche de "grandes dados").Também poderia se tornar uma importante ferramenta nas mãos de comunidades humanas para criar, assimilar e "gerir" o conhecimento. Tudo isso vai na direção de um aumento da inteligência coletiva humana ligada a uma aprendizagem contínua social generalizada.

Eu expliquei os princípios filosóficos e científicos por trás do IEML em "A Esfera Semântica" volume 1 (Wiley 2011) e estou atualmente escrevendo o volume 2, que revela seus aspectos lingüísticos e matemáticos. Não existem atualmente ferramentas, e ainda menos "apps assassinos". Minha pesquisa ainda está numa fase fundamental.

My current research in a nutshell

The human species can be defined by its special ability to manipulate symbols. Each great augmentation in this ability has brought enormous economic, social, political, religious, epistemological, educational (and so on) changes.

I think that there has been only 4 of these big changes. The first one is related to the invention of writing, when symbols became permament and reified. The second one corresponds to the invention of the alphabet, indian numerals and other small groups of symbols able to represent "almost everything" bycombination. The third one is the invention of the printing press and the subsequent invention of electronic mass media. In this case, the symbols werereproduced and transmitted by industrial machines. We are currently at the beginning of a fourth big anthropological change, because the symbols can now be transformed by massively distributed automata in the digital medium.

My main hypothesis is that we still did not have invented the symbolic systems and cultural institutions fitting the new digital medium. So my research in the past 15 years has been devoted to the invention of a symbolic system able to exploit the computational power, the capacity of memory and the ubiquity of the digital medium.
This symbolic system is called IEML, for Information Economy MetaLanguage. It is :
(1) an artificial language that translates itself automatically into natural languages,
(2) a metadata language for the collaborative semantic tagging of digital data,
(3) a new addressing layer of the digital medium (conceptual addressing) solving the semantic interoperability problem,
(4) a programming language specialized in the design of semantic networks,
(5) a semantic coordinate system of the mind (the semantic sphere), allowing the computational modeling of human cognition and the self-observation of collective intelligences.

The development and use of IEML could lead to an epistemological revolution in humanities and social sciences (facing currently a flood of "big data"). It could also become an important tool in the hands of human communities to create, assimilate and "manage" knowledge. All this goes in the direction of an augmentation of human collective intelligence linked to a generalized continuous social learning.

Segue abaixo uma tradução feita colaborativamente por Augusto de Franco e por ana.amelia.brasileiro (com uma ou outra revisão pontual):

1. Segundo seu princípio interno, a esfera semântica é leibniziana, ou seja, perspectivista e monadológica (Monadologia, § 56).

2. Segundo seu princípio externo, a esfera semântica é deleuzeana, ou seja, em reterritorialização permanente, rizomática. Agregação fractal.

3. Do ponto de vista de sua verticalidade, a esfera semântica é aviceniana: intelecto agente, nuvem angélica de signos que é a soma dos uns/daqueles in(di)visíveis.

4. Do ponto de vista da horizontalidade, a esfera semântica é teillardiana: noosfera em emergência, inteligência em enxame. Propriedade coletiva.

5. Em seu princípio ativo, a esfera semântica produz o sentido do sentido por cálculo: sua razão é algorítmica.

6. Em seu princípio passivo, a esfera semântica procede de uma automação cognitiva. Uma maquinaria percorre a paisagem dos signos para territorializar as paisagens mentais, balisá-las em sinais de pensamento.

7. A forma esférica remete à membrana pensante e comunicante da humanidade que recobre o globo terrestre por cabo, fibra, antena, satélite interpostos. Envolvimento/Abarcamento.

8. A dimensão semântica é aqui tomada no seu sentido originário de “técnica dos sinais”: se inventa no lançamento um simbolismo novo transfigurado em uma signalética calculadora/calculatória. Sentido e potência.

9. A esfera semântica é o encerramento evolutivo e emergentista de fulgurações se produzindo a cada microssegundo no seio da membrana Web: estas fulgurações são idéias infinitesimadas pela comunicação ubiquitária/ubíqua.

10. A esfera semântica abarca o conjunto das conversações criadoras queimando/fervilhando no seio da Membrana; ela ordena os detalhes e motivos; ramifica séries e pares/sequências de signos para que emerja a Complexidade do sentido.

11. A esfera semântica apresenta/deixa-transparecer as diferentes escalas de complexidade da humanidade pensante e comunicante: ela se remete a um metanível, ou seja, a uma epistemologia transcultural, transdisciplinar. A hipercomplexidade ao mesmo tempo unifica e diferencia as humanidades dentro da Humanidade.

12. A esfera semântica é o principal regime de produção do sentido de uma inteligência coletiva, conectiva, cognitiva. Entendimento meta-humano do que o humano pode significar sobre o plano info-tecno-lógico.

13. Esta inteligência coletiva, conectiva e cognitiva escapa a todo controle, todo poder, toda autoridade pelo poder massivamente paralelo do Grande Espírito da Humanidade.

14. A filosofia da informação da esfera semântica verifica o postulado (meta)físico do (B)it, 'It from Bit', ou seja, que tudo “isso” deriva de um fio ou de um fragmento de informação.

15. A esfera semântica não é uma biblioteca, um estoque, um reservatório; ela é Fluxo.

16. A esfera semântica, conversação infinita de milhões de indivíduos, exprime, segundo uma nova tecnologia e uma outra teologia da escrita, a humanidade da Humanidade.

Vision poétique de la sphère sémantique

La sphère sémantique peut être comparée à un système de coordonnée permettant de situer précisément les étoiles et constellations sémantiques changeantes qui brillent dans la nuit de la cognition symbolique. C'est en quelque sorte la “ sphère céleste ” unique, infinie et géométrisable d'une astronomie culturelle dont l'ambition est de dépasser l'astrologie des sciences humaines contemporaines, avec ses mondes clos et compartimentés, ses disciplines conflictuelles et ses modèles opaques. De par sa construction symétrique, la sphère sémantique assure un perspectivisme généralisé dans lequel chaque étoile, chaque constellation, observe la totalité du ciel de son propre point de vue.

La sphère sémantique n'est pas seulement un système de coordonnées, c'est aussi un observatoire virtuel de la nature de l'esprit. Cet instrument d'observation laisse apparaître un cosmos hypercomplexe où chaque foyer de création culturelle capte à sa manière l'énergie des autres foyers et émet à son tour une signature intellectuelle singulière. Grâce à la sphère sémantique, la dynamique de lumière cognitive produite par l'intelligence collective humaine devient visible, mesurable et calculable.

L'Hypercortex n'est autre que l'objet qui apparaît dans l'instrument d'observation qu'est la sphère sémantique. C'est un individu de taille cosmique - la cognition symbolique humaine - qui se révèle ainsi progressivement. Cet objet est évidemment historique : on le découvre dans le film hypertextuel de tous les mouvements de lumière sémantique qu'enregistre l'instrument. Et puisque l'objet qui apparaît dans l'observatoire renvoie sa propre image à l'observateur, l'Hypercortex documente un processus évolutif et ouvert d'individuation réflexive.
